Five continents, eight countries and fifty-two thousand miles after leaving the barren desert outside Las Vegas, the final three Teams embarked on a mad dash through the hilly streets of San Francisco, leapfrogging each other all the way to their final destination: East Fort Baker, where Tara & Wil were bested in a harrowing foot-race by best friends Chris & Alex.

Taking the Race by Storm

Final Three with Phil at the finish lineThe twelfth leg of the race began in Auckland, New Zealand, and by this point Teams had already traveled 41,000 miles. Along the way, eight Teams had fallen, leaving only three, and one of these three would soon win THE AMAZING RACE.

Separated couple Tara & Wil were the first Team to begin the leg. At 1:03 am, they opened the first clue, which instructed them to find the monument to Sir John Logan Campbell, considered to be the father of Auckland. "I don't even know where to begin with this one," Tara groaned as she studied the clue. With the help of locals, however, the teammates were able to ascertain the location of the monument, atop a knoll known as One Tree Hill. ( Tara talks about going around the world)

At 3:30 am, siblings Blake & Paige were next to depart from the Pit Stop. Their strategy was to remain "calm, cool, and collected." Blake felt that Wil would probably defeat himself because of his temper, so he surmised that their strongest competition would be Chris & Alex.

It was Tara & Wil, however, who were the first to find the monument and the clue box. Ripping open the clue, Tara & Wil learned they were to head to Maui, Hawaii, 4500 miles away. "It would be awesome if we could get out on a flight tonight," Wil said as he and Tara hurried back to their taxi.
